G. B. Pergolesi opera seria-intermezzo inversion project Livietta e Tracollo
When Livietta e Tracollo visit the psychotherapist's to clarify their affairs...
This comic opera production is the young performers flirt with opera seria and intermezzo genres. The centrepiece is Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Livietta e Tracollo, a rarely performed intermezzo, which tells the love story of the mercurial adventurer Tracollo, and the wily cunning beauty Livietta. This time, in contrast to the 18th century tradition, the serious opera passages surrounds and frames the comic story.
The masterful composers of the Baroque era have left us with an immense musical heritage. One of the tasks of today's performers is to try to recreate Baroque opera, however, inevitably - also, to reinvent it. Even as we strive to continue the traditions, new forms of performance are born in the hands of a modern creator, new ways of expression that are relevant to the present day are established - only the intelligent relationship with the material at hand remains unchanged. The totality of the scenic solutions makes it possible to grasp an immutable axis where the rhetoric, the versatility of the musical language and the quality of the performance are united.
